Karasuyama Town & Castle Hiking

#
Note: This event has already passed.

Nasukarasuyama is a new city inaugurated in 2005 in Tochigi Prefecture. We will stroll the town area and hike Karasuyama Castle ruin. Our day starts with a visit to the Taihei Temple and Ryumon Waterfall, which both have legends involving holy snakes. Walk along the promenade around the waterfall and head to the cavern snake cellar which was originally a tank factory. Tour the cave, go through Atagodai hill, then enter the trail for Karasuyama Castle which was built in 1418 and abandoned in 1869. Look carefully to find remains of the stone walls and moats. Our goal, Yazawa-noyana by Naka River, is an 80-minute walk from the ruins. Yana is a huge fishing trap made of bamboo and allowed to set on the river from July-October. Experience catching fish on Yana, drill sweetfish by IRORI (Japanese style fireplace) and taste!
