Family Child Care at Camp Zama is limited. The number of FCC homes open can fluctuate from 1 to 6 depending on PCS season and need. You may find FCC providers at Camp Zama or Sagamihara Housing Area. The FCC system offers quarters-based child care provided by authorized military family members operating as independent contractors conducting childcare in their own quarters. Providers charge a standardized fee according to total family income, they determine how many children they wish to enroll (within required ratios), and set their own hours of operation. The Army's FCC providers are part of CYS and receive training, inspections, and support from CYS staff.
Each FCC provider creates a comfortable, secure, learning environment in her home to meet the developmental needs and stages of the children in care. Providers offer mixed-age groupings which create opportunities for younger and older children to learn from each other. Learning is integrated into real-life experiences such as talking to the mail carrier, walking in the neighborhood, or baking bread. Providers can borrow age-appropriate materials from the FCC Resource Library. They participate in a comprehensive training program comparable to that required of center staff.
Providers receive monetary subsidies, training, and equipment to run their business.. If you are interested in becoming a Family Child Care provider please contact us at 263-3397 or 263-5723.
