Let’s walk on the Old Tokaido Road, the main artery between Tokyo and Kyoto during the Edo period. There used to be 53 stations and 2 check points set on the 490km road. We will hike between the 16th and 17th stations. The hike starts from the milestone at Okitsu Station, and we will walk about 20 minutes on the flat paved road. We will cross the Okitsu River and reach the entrance for the Satta Pass. The first 10 minutes will be the hardest part of the course, and the most beautiful viewpoint as well. On a clear day, Mt. Fuji can be seen in front of you and the Tomei Expressway, Route 1, and JR Tokaido line are underneath. Take a deep breath, shoot photos, and keep walking about 30 minutes until another milestone at Yui. Enjoy walking about 50 minutes while witnessing old townscapes until Yui Port. Yui is well-known as the town of Sakura Shrimp, very tiny shrimp which are only caught at Suruga Bay. You have a chance to try them for lunch at Shrimp Festival which will be held at the port.
