“Onbashira” in Suwa is famous for being one of the most dangerous festival in Japan. Every year of the Tiger and the Monkey, 16 fir trees are cut down from the mountain and more than 10 tons of logs are carried by people to four Suwa shrines. We will visit one of these Suwa Shrines to see a huge Onbashira logs. Next, we will stop by an area with geysers, which is said to have spouted water 50m high a long time ago. Although this spectacular phenomenon has stopped, the area still continues to produce small geyser spouts assisted by compressors. You may be able to experience boiled egg making soaking in the hot spring near the geysers. Our next destination is the Takashima Castle donjon where you will be able to enjoy the beautiful view of Suwa city and its lake. Then, we will stroll through Route 20 which has 5 Sake breweries within a 5-minute walk. Purchase “Gokuraku set” and taste sake at each breweries.
